Privacy
Short version.
Novelty Writer is a local-first desktop app published by Novelty Technologies, LLC. Your manuscript lives on your disk. We don't see it. We don't sync it to our servers. We don't train models on it.
What we collect
- Account: email + password (or a Google sign-in) so you can activate the desktop app on multiple devices and recover your license. Held in Firebase Authentication.
- Licensing: when you buy, Stripe handles the payment and sends us your email + a record of the purchase. We store one license document per purchase in Firebase Firestore so you can reinstall later.
- Activations: per device we record the device name you provided, the activation timestamp, and the most recent verify timestamp — used so you can deactivate a lost machine from your account dashboard.
- Website: no analytics beacons, no tracking cookies, no retargeting. The marketing site is static HTML.
What we don't collect
- Your manuscript content
- AI prompts or responses (those go direct to your chosen provider using your API key)
- Usage telemetry from the desktop app
- Your location, hardware fingerprint, or browsing history
Third parties
- Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Firestore, and Cloud Functions for the license backend. Subprocessor under our control. No manuscript content is sent to Firebase.
- Stripe processes payments. They see your card info; we don't. We only see the purchase summary they send back.
- GitHub (optional) hosts your manuscript if you enable cross-device sync. GitHub's privacy policy applies.
- OpenRouter / Google / Voyage (optional) receive AI requests you initiate, using API keys you supply.
